King Leopold II certainly deserves a place in the museum of screwed up dictators who practiced horrific treatment of fellow human beings. Certainly this guy is on no one’s most admired list. But there is a danger of pointing the finger at Europeans, or The West, or Christianity, or any group and virtuously position oneself above everyone in that group.

And randomly pick any conner of the globe; where in the world has there not been atrocities, cruelties, and abuse of the powerful? The Umayyad Caliphate, Ajuran Sultanate, the Mongol empire, Ottoman Empire., heck, the Hittites and even the Egyptians. What empire in human history lived up to today’s standard? Most of these empires were not even in “the West” and certainly were not Christian.

Despite my tone in writing this comment ( it’s late and I’m bug dead tired ), I really enjoyed this article. Good read. Jeffrey, keep ‘em coming.
