That was a horrible time to live. I just finished reading a book on medieval witchcraft. All the nations of Europe hunted witches and unfortunately killed them. Interestingly, there was only one nation that never killed a witch, ever. That was the country of Portugal. It was also the first country to give women the right to own land and yes, even have a bank account. All this in the 1700s much before the suffrage moments of England and the Civil Rights movements of America.
